Three Ways I Stay Motivated

I wish I had more time in the day for hobbies. As I get older, I feel that I have less and less time to do the things I want to do. But, there are those quiet moments when you think that if could just do this or that with a bit more resources, wouldn’t ...

Lights for Painting Miniatures (Tips and Recommendation)

Good quality, diffuse lighting can prevent eye fatigue, a major roadblock to a comfortable long painting session. For miniature painting, for long stretches, I highly recommend getting a lamp that uses a full spectrum daylight bulb or LED.

Painting for Story

Beauty is not all in the eye of the beholder. In reality, we can all agree that we judge things with our five senses, most of the time first with the eyes, visually.  […]

NOVA Open 2018: Day 1

The NOVA Open is held only a few miles away in Crystal City, Virginia, just across the river from Washington DC.  It’s a con I’ve been volunteering at and attending for the past five or so years, and it’s currently the only con I go to each year.

The con kicks off Wednesday night with some ...

Skinky Saturdays

So, I love dinosaurs.  Ever since I first saw Jurassic Park, I couldn’t get enough of them.  So, now that I’m an adult and into tiny toy soldiers, OF COURSE I’m into tiny toy dinosaurs.

I recently had a heart-to-heart conversation with a friend, in which I lamented that I was getting burned out on painting miniatures. I paint a lot as a commissioned painter. One of the problems that has been bothering me is that I was struggling to focus. Of late, it has been difficult to focus on ...

Battle Report 40k: Blood Angels vs Grey Knights

The Battlereport with images is linked here: http://warhammer40kbloodangels.blogspot.com/2015/04/battle-report-blood-angels-vs-grey.html I’ve been dabbling in 40k these past few weeks. It has a much different feel than Warmachine/Hordes by Privateer Press. I’m very new to Warhammer 40k (Games Workshop), but acquired a Grey Knight army that I’ve nearly finished painting. Some of the photos of the models are posted in the ...

Painting Challenge! 320 models?

I love a good challenge. I love to paint. So, when I received a painting commission request for 320 termagants/hormagaunts (Tyranid army by GW) I immediately accepted! Why not? A painting challenge includes not only the quality (which I am able to do, imho, click here), but also high volume and speed. Tyranids are a fascinating alien race ...
