The bartender looked at the man. His face was scared, his guns were loaded and his clothing was ripped. He was new. Sent here from beyond the breach to do some time in good ol’ Malifaux. The man sat at the bar and the bartender smiled, “Newcomer eh? Here, have a Soulstone Gin. First one’s free…”

Most people have played games by the one often called the “evil empire”. Many have used Warhammer and Warhammer 40k (produced by Games Workshop) as a gateway into the miniature community. Some of us stay there –quite happily- and some of us move on. Many will admit, however, that these two classic games have set the paradigm for gaming. If we can consider this the paradigm or “the box”, we can consider Warmachine and Hordes to be found outside of “the box”. If we then consider Warmachine’s gaming paradigm outside the box we can go through the looking glass and find ourselves in Malifaux.
For most, this game will bend your perceptions of what a miniature game should be, look like, and play like. The creators, Nathan Caroland and Eric Johns have coined the term “Steamvictorianhorrorwestpunk” to describe the game. A more suitable phrase will never be found. This game has a unique ambiance and takes all those ideas you thought would make a cool miniature and throws them into one game.
